§ 8-71. Division of emergency management.

  • (a)

    The division of emergency management is hereby created as an agency of the county acting in accordance with and in support of the State of Florida Division of Emergency Management and the State Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan and programs.

    (b)

    The county administrator shall appoint an emergency management director to have direct responsibility for the organization, administration, and operation of the division of emergency management. The director of the division of emergency management shall also perform other functions, including advising the county administrator and the board regarding emergencies and disaster mitigation, preparedness, response, recovery, and assisting the board and county administrator in the development and management of any emergency management plans, programs, or activities designed to save lives, reduce suffering and protect property of the citizens of the county.

    (c)

    Through the division of emergency management, the county shall develop a single, integrated emergency management program to be adopted and implemented by the county. The emergency management program develops and implements measures for, and manages activities related to mitigation, emergency preparedness, response, recovery operations, and consequence management.
