§ 5-2. Wake restrictions.

  • (a)

    That portion of the Withlacoochee River lying north of the Withlacoochee River Bridge at Nobleton on S.R. 476, which is in section 24, township 21 south, range 20 east, and lying south of the northwest corner of section 6, township 21 south, range 21 east, is hereby designated as a "Slow Down—Minimum Wake" restricted zone. It shall be unlawful for any person to operate a boat, whether driven by an outboard or inboard motor or being an airboat, at a speed which creates other than a minimum wake.

    (b)

    The board of county commissioners is hereby authorized to designate areas of other bodies of water in the county as restricted zones, either as a "Slow Down—Minimum Wake" zone or as an "Idle Speed—No Wake" zone. Such designation shall not take effect until there has been one (1) publication in a local newspaper of general circulation in the county in which the area designated as the restricted zone is defined and the type of zone indicated. No area shall be designated as either type of restricted zone unless there shall be first held a public hearing, after due notice is published, at which all interested persons shall be heard.

    (c)

    All law enforcement officers, including, but not limited to, the county sheriff and his duly authorized deputies, and officers of the state game and freshwater fish commission, are hereby authorized to enforce the provisions of this section.
