§ 20-86. Other facilities in county right-of-way.

  • Sumter County will not fund the construction of or assume the maintenance of the following facilities which may be approved or permitted within the right-of-way of a county road:

    (a)

    Residential area sidewalks constructed by builders and developers in accordance with subdivision regulations will not be maintained by Sumter County. It is the responsibility of abutting property owners to keep such sidewalks in repair.

    (b)

    Decorative entrances, gates, walls, nonstandard street signs, etc., shall be constructed and maintained by the developer or homeowners.

    (c)

    Landscaped medians, parkways, other planted areas, including irrigation, if any.

    (d)

    Street lighting systems.

    (e)

    Private driveways.

    (f)

    Water retention areas and systems.

    Sumter County will assume the repair and maintenance of the following driveways which have been lawfully approved either by permit, county acquisition of road process, site plan approval or county conversion to the right-of-way unless otherwise noted during the driveway acceptance process. The access connections ensure safe passage of its users to and from the County rights-of way.

    (a)

    Commercial/industrial driveways.

    (1)

    Stop signs and stop bars.

    (2)

    Asphalt and concrete.

    (3)

    Directional islands.

    (4)

    Safe passage.

    (5)

    Other physical traffic control measures.
